RIYADH: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s regret over the veto of the draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The resolution was submitted by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Security Council on behalf of the Arab countries.

In a statement, the ministry stressed that there is need, more than ever, to reform the Security Council to help it efficiently carry out its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security with credibility and without double standards.

Saudi Arabia warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings as well as the escalation of military operations that threaten international peace and security and do not serve any efforts calling for dialogue and a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.
