Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology meets with “ICANN” President to discuss strengthening cooperation to develop Saudi Internet domains industry

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s delegation, headed by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha, met yesterday in Seattle, USA, with Göran Marby, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and discussed with him means to develop scopes of cooperation between the two sides.

The delegation also discussed the importance of promoting global acceptance and international domain names with a focus on Arab domains, developing human capabilities and raising awareness, developing the Saudi domain industry, organizing workshops, and holding conferences inside the Kingdom.

ICANN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining the security and stability of the Internet’s IP address system. The ICANN community consists of stakeholders from government, the private sector, civil society, and the technical community from around the world, to suggest and develop policies related to the Internet’s domain name system.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Saudi delegation’s visit to the USA, to develop strategic partnerships with major American technology companies to promote the growth of the digital and innovation-based economy in the Kingdom.
