The Senate’s Palestine Committee denounced the recent statements made by Israeli Minister of Finance in Netanyahu-led government. In a statement on Wednesday, the committee said the Israeli minister’s statements reflect the Israeli government’s “true” position, which deliberately snubs outcomes of Aqaba and Sharm al-Sheikh meetings aimed at stopping escalation and freezing settlement operations. The committee’s head, Nayef Qadi, said the hardline Israeli minister’s stance reflected deep hatred towards the Palestinian people and a clear insistence on ignoring the Palestinians’ presence. Locally, Qadi stressed Jordan’s “firm” position in support of Palestinian people’s rights to establish their independent state on the Palestinian national soil with Jerusalem as its capital and on June 4, 1967 borders, calling on Israel to withdraw from West Bank and Jerusalem lands “completely.” In a related context, he called on the Palestinian people to unite and work with the Arab countries to restore their rights and preserve their legitimate historical reconciliation. Qadi also expressed pride in the “firm” Jordanian position expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah II on all occasions, in relation to the Palestinian cause and the historical Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
