Syria calls for removing coercive measures imposed on Venezuela

Syria on Tuesday called for the immediate removal of unilateral coercive economic measures that target the Venezuelan people and violate their human rights, including the right to life, health, food and development.

“We call for putting an end to the US intervention in Venezuela’s domestic affairs, respect its sovereignty, national unity and choices of its people,” Syria’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam al-Din Ala, said in a statement at a session of Human Rights Council on reviewing national report of Venezuela Republic on the situation of human rights in the framework of the periodic review mechanism.

He stressed the importance of policies adopted by the Venezuelan government in the face of the economic embargo and its efforts exerted to boost mechanisms of social protection to confront the economic war.
