Syria, Iraq to launch ninth phase of Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP)

Damascus, Minister of Water Resources Tammam Ra’ad and his Iraqi counterpart Mehdi Rashid al-Hamadani held a meeting Thursday to launch the ninth phase of the joint Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP).

IHP, carried out in several stages, is addressing water challenges locally and internationally as well as building capacities to further support the management of water resources.

In this context, Minister Ra’ad pointed out to releasing the ninth phase of the co-program, saying that Syria and Iraq are facing similar challenges in water sector.

He added that the program enhances scientific techniques and human resources through scientific research and water education.

The Iraqi Minister, on his part, underlined the importance of the co-program in light of climate changes in both countries as it contributes to engaging all the ministries and sectors concerned in the awareness of applying new methods and transforming to modern irrigation.
