Thousands of protesters marched through Dublin city center this afternoon in support of the Palestinian people and in protest of the genocidal Israeli aggression on Gaza. Protesters marched from the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square to Merrion Square chanting slogans in support of Palestinian rights, such as ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ and ‘Israeli ambassador; out out out’. The event was organized by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign along with representatives from People Before Profit, Sinn Féin and the Social Democrats present. Some of the protesters waved Palestinian flags and wore Palestinian keffiyeh scarves carrying signs which stated ‘Stop the genocide in Gaza’ and ‘Arms Embargo in Israel now’. Zoe Lawlor, chairwoman of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, addressed the gathering in Dublin. ‘Take this immense energy and solidarity and channel it into action,’ she said, as quoted by the Dublin-based Irish Times daily newspaper. ‘There must be an immediate ceasefire, the illegal siege of Gaza must be lifted and humanitarian aid allowed in,’ she continued. Lawlor said the group was insisting that the Irish Government urgently uses its voice, especially at EU level, to press for an immediate ceasefire and to end the ongoing Israeli bloody aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip. Meantime, MP Richard Boyd Barrett, of the People Before Profit party, said ‘words of concern’ from the Government was not good enough and action was needed. ‘We intend to put irresistible pressure through people power, through protest, through campaigning, on our Government and some of the Opposition parties who so far have failed to actually call for meaningful sanctions that hold Israel accountable and actually put pressure on Israel to stop the crimes it is committing,’ he said.
