Istanbul (NINA) – The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the number of victims of the earthquake that struck the south of the country on the sixth of this month has risen to 44,374.
The head of AFAD, Yunus Sezer, said during a press conference this evening that 9,990 aftershocks were recorded following the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaras at dawn on the sixth of this month.
He said that search and rescue work has been completed in about 21,000 buildings, and that operations are currently focused on removing rubble completely in the affected areas, and that efforts are continuing with great momentum to erect tents, residential containers, and permanent homes for the victims of the disaster.
