London: Thousands of demonstrators marched across the United Kingdom on Saturday, demanding an end to the Israeli war on Gaza.

The Birmingham World newspaper reported that at least 40 marches were organised in Birmingham, Newcastle, Brighton, Nottingham, Sheffield and Southampton.

Demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and chanted against the Israeli war on Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the siege on the besieged enclave.

They demanded explicit calls from the British government to intervene to bring about a ceasefire and ban the sale of weapons to Israel, according to the newspaper.

The head of the Stop the War Coalition, Chris Nineham, said the massive march in Birmingham may be the largest ever, urging an expansion of voices calling for stopping the Israeli war on Gaza.
