RAMALLAH: Various Prisoners’ institutions in a joint report issued today said that the Israeli occupation detained more than 6,255 people in the West Bank since the start of its aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7 and until the end of December.

The institutions said the occupation detained 210 women, including women who were detained from the 1948-occupied lands, and more than 355 children during the period covered by the report.

According to the report, the detainees were either detained and taken by the army from their homes and at military checkpoints, or forced under pressure to hand themselves to Israel.

They explained that the number of detentions among journalists reached 50, of whom 35 remain in detention and 20 were placed under administrative detention.

The number of administrative detention orders issued against Palestinians amounted to 2,990, including new and renewed orders, with orders issued against children and women, according to the report.

The institutions stressed t
hat these statistics do not include any information about the number of detention cases from Gaza, because the occupation refuses to reveal it and implements the crime of forced disappearance against them.

They indicated that the ongoing detention campaigns are accompanied by mounting crimes and violations, including torture and severe beatings, threats against detainees and their families, widespread vandalism and destruction of citizens’ homes, and the seizure of vehicles, money and gold jewelry, in addition to the widespread destruction operations inflicted upon the infrastructure, particularly in Tulkarem and Jenin camps and their camp.

The statement said that the reporting period witnessed the killing of seven detainees inside the occupation detention centers, namely Omar Daraghmeh from Tubas, Arafat Hamdan from Ramallah, Majed Zaqoul from Gaza, Abd al-Rahman Mar’i from Salfit, Tha’er Abu Assab from Qalqilya and Abd al-Rahman al-Bahsh from Nablus. The identity of the seventh detainee remains unknown.

The institutions confirmed that the total number of detainees in the occupation detention centers reached more than 8800 at the end of December, including over 3290 administrative detainees, in addition to 661 others who were classified as ‘illegal combatants’ from Gaza detainees.
