Najaf The Governor of Najaf, Majid Al-Waeli, received in his office today, Wednesday, a delegation from the Vatican, headed by the President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Miguel Angelo Ayozo Guixo, accompanied by the Secretary of the Council, Marcos Solo, and the Secretary of the Vatican Embassy in Iraq, Charles Luanga Suona.

The media office of Al-Waeli stated: “Cardinal Guixo conveyed the greetings of the Pope of the Vatican to the Iraqi people in general and Najaf and its supreme authority in particular, represented by the supreme authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, expressing his happiness at visiting Iraq and the holy city of Najaf in particular.”

Giuxo said: “The Vatican seeks more meetings between believers, and its goal is rapprochement and dialogue.”

For his part, Al-Waeli affirmed: “This visit is welcomed and pride for the local administration, and it is a message of interest from the Vatican State in the holy city of Najaf,” pointing to the importance of these visits in dissolving differences between peoples, strengthening human partnership, and consolidating the values and principles of peace between countries.

The governor added: “Al-Najaf is characterized by its cohesive social fabric, its society is peace-loving and enjoys moderation, and the province receives arrivals from different religions and nationalities.”
