Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdallah Bou Habib, on Friday received UNRWA Commissioner General, Philippe Lazzarini, who introduced him to UNRWA’s new director in Lebanon. Discussions reportedly focused on Lebanon’s policy towards Palestinians and UNRWA’s financial situation. For his part, Minister Bou Habib stressed “the need for UNRWA to continue to provide its services in order to protect stability in Palestinian refugee camps”, asking of Lazzarini to invest “in development and long-term projects that can really change the lives of Palestinians and allow them to live in better conditions.’ Minister Bou Habib separately met with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with whom he discussed the briefing she will present to the Security Council during its next session to discuss the Secretary-General’s periodic report on the implementation of UN resolution 1701. The pair also reviewed the political, economic, and social challenges facing Lebanon.
