UGANDA: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki met with the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, on the sidelines of the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Uganda, Kampala.

During the meeting, which was held in the presence of Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Ambassador Riyad Mansour, Malki briefed the President of the UN General Assembly on the challenges facing the Palestinian issue in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, highlighting the necessity of intensifying efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire.

Malki further stressed the need to increase efforts to ensure unconditional and unrestricted humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.

He further stressed the importance of working toward creating a political horizon that leads to the end of the occupation and the embodiment of the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its
capital.

For his part, the President of the UN General Assembly expressed deep sorrow and grief for the people of Gaza in light of this “unprecedented brutality”, which he stressed will only end with an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

‘Multilateral settings, including the Assembly, are the key to solving protracted violence: working together towards peace, in peace,’ he said in a post on X.
