French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday that he plans to keep the government in place and not dissolve parliament.

This came during Macron’s meeting with Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne and his political allies in the Elysee Palace, BFM TV quoted some sources.

Macron made the statement amid amounting anger after passing the retirement law without voting and the survival of government of a no-confidence motion.

Later in the day, Macron is set to meet President of National Assembly and head of the Senate.

Late Monday, France witnessed anger of many protesters in a number of French cities after the government survived two no-confidence motions with 278 National Assembly votes.

French police arrested another 234 people in Paris Monday night during clashes between protesters and security forces, with several groups burning trash bins, bikes and other objects.

Defending the law that raised the retirement age from 62 to 64, Borne said on Monday the voting was in favor of the public interest and was in line with the constitution.
