Papal Nuncio, Monsignor Paolo Borgia, visited today the town of Deir Mimas – Marjayoun district, as a gesture of solidarity with the Christians of the border areas whose villages are being bombed by the Israeli army, and based on the Supreme Pontiff’s keenness to stand alongside the Christians of Lebanon in general and the South in particular.

Presiding over a Mass service at the “Church of Our Lady” in Deir Mimas, Monsignor Borgia expressed his joy at the participation of the townspeople, saying: “We are still in the time of Easter, that is, the time of the victory of life over death, good over evil, and the time of peace,’ hoping that ‘peace will prevail in all of Lebanon, particularly in the South.”

After the Mass, the Papal Ambassador met with the citizens over a welcome meal in the Church hall, where the mayor and the townspeople thanked him for his presence in these circumstances, conveyed to him the concerns of the current stage, and asked for his support to their steadfastness by implementing vital
projects that contribute to boosting the local economy. They also asked for securing international protection for a few days for the town’s farmers to tend to their lands in preparation for its cultivation.

It is noteworthy that this is the first visit of Apostolic Nuncio Borgia to the South region, yet he is no stranger to Lebanon and its crises and problems, as he previously served alongside former Papal Nuncio Gabriele Caccia as a first advisor in the Apostolic Embassy from 2010 to 2013.
